Super Savings: TV Edition
As you prepare to watch the big game this weekend, check out these television energy-saving tips:
1. Check the Brightness.
The brighter your TV settings, the more energy it will use. Make sure your TV doesn’t face direct sunlight so the brightness doesn’t have to be turned all the way up.
2. Plug Your TV Into a Power Strip.
By plugging your TV into a power strip and turning it off when you aren’t using it, you can save up to $100 a year.
3. Watch Together.
Encourage family and friends to gather together for the big game, since having multiple televisions on at the same time can eat up a lot of electricity.
4. Turn Down the Volume.
The higher the volume, the more electricity used. Lower your volume a few notches this Sunday.
5. Record Using DVR.
If you can’t stay awake for the whole game, record it using a DVR, which uses far less energy than a TV does.
