5 Ways to Take the Stress Out of College Move-in Day
For many, moving into an off-campus apartment is a memorable but stressful occasion. Here are five steps you can take to ensure a smoother college move-in day.
1) Skip the suitcases, if you’re not flying.
Duffle bags and large garbage bags are great luggage alternatives if you’re planning on driving to campus. You can organize your items ahead of time and sort each bag by category, such as seasonal clothing, bathroom toiletries or bedroom linens. Garbage bags can also function as garment bags that will protect your clothes from getting dirty when moving from your car to your apartment.
2) Pack cleaning supplies.
Cleaning wipes, paper towels, a broom and a dustpan are essential products to have on hand during move-in day. Wiping down your drawers and shelves before unpacking will guarantee that your clothes and possessions remain clean for the start of the school year.
3) Bring refreshments.
Bring a cooler stocked with water, coffee or snacks to enjoy between unpacking boxes and rearranging furniture. Consider keeping your door open and sharing some refreshments with your new neighbors.
4) Check your school’s website for move-in day resources.
As move-in day nears, college websites oftentimes have helpful resources to guide you on where to park, whether there are carts or wheeled containers to help transport your belongings and if student volunteers are available to help unpack. Your school’s website will likely also have a schedule of fun move-in day events, ranging from campus tours to department luncheons.
5) Get your power on before unpacking.
Simply log into MyAccount, select Start/Stop/Move Service from the menu and enroll in Service Initiation Online. Entergy will help you cross one more thing off your list and turn the power on before you step through the door.
